Lifecycles

My project “Lifecycles” is about what happens from the beginning to the end, between life and death, specifically in nature. I wanted to showcase the beauty of all the phases of life and how each one of them is special and precious in its own way. It was essential that my images had a bittersweet feeling and caused the viewer to pause and appreciate them. I also wanted to showcase that nature can be beautiful even in black and white. The mind is powerful and imaginative, and this work uses that to its advantage by being solely black and white. It allows the mind to wonder and create its own idea of what each scene would look like. There is also symbolism in this choice as I am using black and white like life and death as there is both sides of the spectrum but many beautiful things in between as well. The most important aspect of this is the fact that lifecycles happen not just in nature but in many other areas of life as well. This creates a sense of intimacy within my work and a sense of urgency and awareness as well. Everything in life has its own timeline, especially humans, and some are shorter than others. It is important to keep this in mind and not only cherish each moment but take care of and nurture the things around you while also remembering the serenity of life and the abruptness of death.
